better than i, but how big of a gaffe was it that mitt romney didn't mention afghanistan or iraq or the wars in his acceptance speech? >> it's not a killer gaffe, but it's a serious gaffe. for decades republicans have had the advantage on foreign and defense policy. certainly that helped power bush to reelection in 2004. now ironically they've conceded that whole territory to the democrats and left barack obama a hole a mile wide to drive his truck through in his disposition on foreign policy, which by the way, i thought was the strongest part of the speech. the domestic side was fairly empty, but the foreign policy side was more hard hitting and more specific. >> when you take a helicopter approach maybe lastly, you got two predominant themes, the republicans saying are you better off than four years ago and the democrats saying we need more time. which one is the stronger message of the two? which 1 do you think overall played out -- one do you think overall played out and got itself into the consciousness of the voters? >> if you look at the enthusiasm at the convention, clear
